MARCOGAZ Inspection of Gas Meter in Use – A trend analysis from the years 2017 and 2023

This report presents a comparative analysis of inspection practices for gas meters in use across several European countries, building on a previous MARCOGAZ survey conducted in 2017. Based on contributions from network operators representing approximately 65 million gas meters, the study examines inspection procedures, sampling methodologies, measuring points and meter types currently applied throughout Europe.
The publication highlights differences in national approaches to meter inspection and replacement, including the growing role of smart meters, statistical sampling methods and regulatory frameworks. It also provides an overview of trends related to inspection intervals, operational lifetime and quality control practices for both domestic and industrial gas meters.
