Diego MODOLELL
President
Diego Modolell is the President of MARCOGAZ since 18 June 2026, after two years as Vice-President.
He is the Vice-Director of the Swiss Industry Association for Water, Gas and Heat (SVGW) and leads the area of gas and district heating. His activities are very much focused on the development of technical knowledge and standards in regard to the decarbonisation of the gas sector. Before, he held several positions in the Power Generation Business in Switzerland and abroad. He holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) from TU Braunschweig, Germany.

James BURCHILL
Vice-President
James Burchill is the Vice-President of MARCOGAZ since 18 June 2026.
He is the Chief Engineer at Gas Networks Ireland, the company that owns and operates the natural gas network in Ireland and serves over 720,000 homes and businesses. His work supports the company’s transition towards a repurposed and fully decarbonised gas network, including the integration of renewable gases such as biomethane and green hydrogen.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Cork Regional Technical College and a Master of Science in Development Management from The Open University, and has completed further qualifications in artificial intelligence, investments and capital markets, and data analytics.

Manuel COXE
Secretary General
Since 2020, Manuel Coxe has served as Secretary General of MARCOGAZ, guiding the association’s work with the Executive Board, technical committees, and Secretariat. He also serves as Vice-Chairman of the European Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking Stakeholders Group.
He brings more than 25 years of experience in the energy sector, covering hydrogen, natural gas, and power. Before joining MARCOGAZ, he held senior and technical roles at International Renewable Energy Agency, European Power Exchanges, European electricity TSOs (now ENTSO-E), and REN, the Portuguese electricity and gas TSO, with work across Europe and the United Arab Emirates.
His areas of expertise include electricity and gas network operation and management, including hydrogen, biomethane, and natural gas, as well as energy policy and markets.
He holds a degree in Energy Systems Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, an MBA from Durham University Business School, and pursued a PhD Program in Economics at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He also followed executive education at the University of Harvard, the University of Western Ontario, and the University of Oxford.
