GASO becomes a Member in MARCOGAZ

AS GASO, the only natural gas distribution system operator in Latvia, has recently joined as a Member in MARCOGAZ.
MARCOGAZ is more than delighted to start September by having AS GASO as member and welcoming them on board. AS GASO is the only natural gas distribution system operator in Latvia and this milestone solidifies the company’s commitment to enhancing its operations and contributing to the European gas sector’s advancement.
Founded on November 22, 2017, GASO was established following the separation of the distribution system’s operations from the joint-stock company “Latvijas Gāze,” in accordance with the European Union’s and Latvia’s regulations aimed at ensuring the independence of the natural gas distribution system. As a wholly owned subsidiary of AS Eesti Gaas, the largest gas company in the Baltic States and Finland, GASO has since been at the forefront of developing and maintaining Latvia’s natural gas infrastructure.
Managing over 5,400 kilometres of distribution system pipelines and serving 370,000 users across Latvia, GASO plays a crucial role in the nation’s energy sector. The company employs more than 850 professionals dedicated to ensuring a reliable and safe gas supply to end consumers. GASO’s responsibilities include the development of the distribution infrastructure, the construction of new connections, system operation, and the management of natural gas accounting. Additionally, GASO operates a 24/7 emergency service to address any urgent issues within the distribution network.
As a member of MARCOGAZ, GASO will contribute to and benefit from the association’s expertise in areas such as gas quality, safety, energy efficiency, and new gases. This membership underscores GASO’s commitment to the decarbonisation of the gas market, as biomethane also becomes part of Latvia’s energy system in 2024.
