15 June 2022 | Press releases

Hamburg, 15 June 2022. The MARCOGAZ General Assembly, held yesterday in Hamburg, Germany, has elected Mr. Liam Nolan and Mr. Alexander Schwanzer, respectively, as President and Vice-President. Mr. Nolan succeeds Ms. Thea Larsen, who has served as President and Mr. Schwanzer succeeds Mr. Nolan.

The elected President, Mr. Nolan, has been Vice President of MARCOGAZ since 2020. He is Head of Technical Development and Technical Training at Gas Networks Ireland, which owns, operates and develops the national gas infrastructure in Ireland.

In handing over her duties as President, Ms. Larsen stated that “over the last two years the energy sector, and in particular the gas industry, has witnessed a wave of geopolitical, policy, regulatory and technological development and I am very much honoured for the privilege I had to serve the association first as Vice President and then as President. I wish to thank MARCOGAZ members for the unmeasurable trust and for the milestones we have accomplished together.”

MARCOGAZ new President, Mr. Nolan, stressed that “the gas community in Europe has entrusted me to continue serving and to lead its technical association, MARCOGAZ, in the period when the gas industry is challenged to cope with scenarios of extreme urgency, insuring the security of energy supply, decarbonise the entire gas value chain, and to overcome particular technical questions regarding integrity and safety of gas systems operating with renewable and low-carbon gases. It is  for me a great honour to serve the interests of the Members as President and contribute in its development with further focus on technical assessments that the gas industry requires.

The terms of office for the elected President and Vice President is two years, starting on 14 June 2022 and runs until the General Assembly of 2024.
