Joint Industry Reaction Paper to the Electrification Action Plan
30 September 2026
MARCOGAZ, together with CEDEC, COGEN Europe, the European Biogas Association, Eurogas, GD4S, Liquid Gas Europe and EUTurbines, has published a joint reaction paper to the European Commission’s Electrification Action Plan, presented on 17 July 2026.
The signatories support the Plan’s goals of resilience, security and competitiveness, and recognise the role of electrification in achieving them. They also note that raising the EU’s electrification rate from 23% to 46% by 2040 would require an unprecedented acceleration. The paper argues that renewable and low-carbon gases, along with existing gas infrastructure, should form part of a cost-efficient, secure and inclusive decarbonisation strategy.
The paper calls on the Commission to enhance energy security by leveraging renewable and low-carbon fuels and existing infrastructure; to prioritise complementarity and flexibility before substitution; to pursue tailored solutions, local cross-sector planning and consumer empowerment; to reconcile competitiveness with the energy transition; and to ensure security of supply for all European citizens.
