This webinar will delve into the latest MARCOGAZ publication: “Guidance on the application of the EU regulation on methane emissions reduction”, analyzing the different technical applications of the EU Regulation for midstream and downstream, and will also address the current international status of methane emission reductions around the globe, with existing strategies, challenges, and key developments.

Methane is a highly potent greenhouse gas, and reducing its emissions is one of the fastest and most effective ways to slow climate change. The European Union’s recently adopted regulation represents a major step forward in global methane reduction efforts, particularly within the energy sector. The regulation, which brings a strong focus on transparency, standardization, and innovation, establishes strict Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) requirements, mandating that operators accurately quantify and report their emissions. The first independently verified reports will be due by February 2027, marking a key milestone in enforcement.

Continuous innovation remains essential, especially in the development of more accurate and efficient methane detection technologies. By setting clear expectations and fostering collaboration between industry, regulators, and the research community, the regulation aims to achieve meaningful methane reductions while maintaining a practical and balanced approach.
